new habits

I’m not calling my New Year Resolutions, resolutions. I’m calling them New Habits, because that is what they are… New habits. And new habits are hard to build. I would like to have working out as one of my new habits. I tell myself this at the beginning of every new year, unfortunately. Will I stick to it? I don’t know. I should. I’m old, out of shape, and concerned with my health. What I do know is that I will NOT be spending a crazy amount of money on workout “things”. I have all the leggings and workout gear I’ve accumulated during the pandemic years that I do not need to shell out anymore money, just to workout.
With that in mind, what I have begun doing is conscious shopping. I’m not very good at it, but this is one habit that I’d really like to stick by. As I become older, I feel less need to want “things”. Materialistic things. Also, the less I want, the more money I’ll save; and saving is the goal as one of my 2023 New Habits.
One of the rules that I’d like to put in place is to, “remove and replace one” item. What does it entail? It means, if I plan on replacing an item, then I will need to discard/recycle the old item. However, the old item can only be replaced if it becomes so unusable and so worn out that it needs to be replaced. This, absolutely, applies to my wardrobe and my shoes.
Other budgetary items on my list: skincare, makeup and haircare products. I will no longer allow myself to purchase an abundance of skincare and makeup items that ends up shelved in the back somewhere. To be honest, I receive a bit of promotional skincare products, so much so that I don’t really need to purchase/replace many. However, when I do get to that point where I have to replace, I will need to replace a lot. I use a lot of skincare products.
As for makeup, I’ve forgone applying foundation or powder. On any typical day, I only use eyebrow liner, mascara, lip balm/lipstick. If I feel spicy, I’ll use eyeliner and/or gold glittery eye shadow. As for haircare products, I only need my Olaplex and the hair bleach I’ve been using lol.
A couple things that I’d love to spend my money on, when I’m not saving and/or investing money, are adventure and food. I think I’d like to get out more this year, being that I’ve deprived myself of this for a while now.
Also, why am I blogging? I haven’t blogged in over a year. I think. I’m going to try to write a blog post here and there, when I have something to say. But you know, new habits are hard.
YAY!!!!!!! Love this post so much. I myself am hoping to workout more, spend less and be aware of what I am buying.
I’m, legit, going to start with 5 minute workout later today lol I really need to chill on the spending.
